Left Behind

Be the Light that Leads the Way to Freedom!

Oskar Schindler is well known for his bravery, tenacity, and dedication because he was willing to lose all of his wealth and risk his own life in order to help roughly 1,200 Jews escape certain death in German concentration camps.  Today, he and his wife Emilie, are buried in Jerusalem on Mount Zion.  They were named Righteous Among the Nations by the Israeli government in 1993.

Harriet Tubman was born into slavery.  She was beaten, mentally abused, and acquired a life-long head injury from one of her various masters.  Yet, Tubman began to receive premonitions from God which led her to become a devout Christian.  Later, she was able to escape and return on 13 missions to save roughly 70 people.  During the Civil War, she worked for the Union Army as a cook, a nurse, a scout, and a spy.  Harriet guided the raid at Combahee Ferry, which liberated more than 700 enslaved people.  There is hardly a person alive today that hasn’t heard of or will not hear of Harriet Tubman’s work and sacrifice.

How many remember watching the movie, Left Behind, while they were in high school?  As a mere fourteen year old, it sent fear into my soul initially.  I was already a Christian, but I most certainly made sure that my name was written in The Lamb’s Book of Life after being shown the movie in class!

As an adult, I recently realized the magnitude of the fact that all living Christians have been left behind, after their salvation, for a specific purpose.  We all were left on a crucial mission behind enemy lines.  That is why life in this foreign land is difficult.  Folks, we are in an ongoing battle!  There is a world full of people who are in slavery to Satan.  They are being beaten, tormented, and unjustly killed by the enemy they can’t see or don’t recognize.  Therefore, it is our supreme calling to witness to the people we come into contact with on a daily basis.  Oskar Schindler and Harriet Tubman knew the value of setting the captives free!  They were willing to risk their lives to do so.  Are we willing to be used by God in the same way?

You might ask, “Where is my mission field?”  Until we are called elsewhere by the Holy Spirit, it’s our place of employment, our school, our home, the grocery store, the doctor’s office, traveling, social media, etc.  In short, our mission field is where we are at the time. We are farmers planting the seeds. We are fishers of men. We are the military putting on the Whole Armor of God. We are beacons of light. We are guides who lead the way to freedom.

Next, you may ask, “What tools do I have?”  That’s an easy question to answer! We have been given our mouths to proclaim, our hands to assist, our eyes to notice pain, our ears to hear the needs, our feet to walk in service, a mind to gather knowledge and wisdom, God’s Holy Bible as the concrete directions, and the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us!  Friends, your tool belt is full for the service in which you have been called!

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the Grace of God.

Acts 20:24
