God’s Personal Love Song

Everyone loves a heart-felt love song…right? Parents are aware that even tiny babies need love songs.  I recall singing, “You are my sunshine to my firstborn,” “You are my moonshine,” to my second born (he was mesmerized by the moon,) “You are my starshine,” to the third born, and “You are my rainbow shine,” to my final child. (Her hair turned a different color several times a day!

All men know how to make a ladies heart skip a beat, like Alfalfa did for Carla, in The Little Rascals when he sang, “You are so beautiful to me!  You’re everything I hoped for, you’re everything I need…”

Men, though they try to act all macho, are no different.  What man wouldn’t feel more loved if his woman sang, “I can’t help falling in love with you,” to him during a football game or a basketball game?  Well, at least afterwards!

As a kindergarten teacher, I allowed the students to listen and sing along with Skinny Marinky Dinky Dink, Skinny Marinky Do, I love you!  I wanted them to feel loved and welcomed by everyone in the classroom.

Did you know that whales, birds, crocodiles, elephants, frogs, and wolves also sing love songs to prospective mates?

As everyone probably knows, there have been numerous songs written to show God how much we love him.  Yet, have you ever wondered what love song you could sing that would touch God’s heart and show him how you personally feel about him?  I thought about this over ten years ago. Since I love to write just about anything, I decided I would write a simple song that would express to God what he means to me. One of my dear friends commented that it sounded something like a child would sing.  I like that idea. I AM a child of God. If it sounds like a child, you know it comes from the heart!

As I have said in the past, I can’t carry a tune in a bucket.  Therefore, I will be kind to your ears. I asked my long time friend, a minister, and a musician, Pat Chesnut to add music to the song I wrote and sing it for me!  Below, you will find the words. You will also notice that there isn’t anything ‘grand’ to it. However, it lays out my whole heart in praise.

I Love You Lord!

I woke up this morning,
With you on my mind.
I could feel your awesome presence.
Lord, you’re one of a kind!

Then, I bowed my head,
To offer up a humble prayer.
I knew that you’d be listening,
Because you truly care.

Chorus:

I love you Lord,
Seems to flow so naturally.
I love you Lord,
You’re so precious to me!

I don’t always show it.
I don’t always seem to care,
But I love you Lord,
And I always want you near!

As noon rolled around,
And the world was crowding in,
I bowed my head to pray,
Lord, it’s me again.

I’m so glad you’re still with me,
You are my dearest friend.
Your compassion gives me peace,
And stirs my soul within!

Chorus:

Soon the day turned to night,
I found myself alone,
Except my blessed savior,
Lord, you call me your own.

And like many times before,
I close my eyes in tears.
It’s so good to know,
You understand my fears!

Chorus:

Now, let me challenge you to put into words what God means to you!  If you are going to write it in AB CB Rhyme Scheme, you don’t have to worry about rhyming until after you’ve written three lines.  The fourth line will rhyme with the second. You never know what you can do until you try! It will draw you closer to God in your personal relationship.  That’s what life is all about…right?

David knew about singing praises unto God.  His love for God was evident. David realized where his strength and help came from, so he sang to the Lord!

I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.  The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Psalm 18:1-2
